Meet Akeyla Porcher - Your Wine Guide with Southern Roots and Global Taste
I’m Akeyla Porcher, a WSET Level 3 certified wine professional (with merit!) — or as I like to say, a proud wine nerd with a story worth sipping.
My wine journey began in 2015 at a professional event at Old Dominion University. Faced with an open bar and a wine list I couldn’t decode, I ordered a tequila sunrise — the only one in the room doing so. That moment sparked a curiosity that quickly turned into a passion. I started ordering wine flights, chatting up bartenders and sommeliers, and slowly but surely, my palate evolved. I was hooked.
Then came 2020. Like many of us, I needed a creative outlet during the pandemic — so I took a leap and got a second job at a wine bar. Crazy? Maybe. Life-changing? Absolutely. That experience deepened my knowledge and ignited a fire to share wine in a way that’s approachable, fun, and rooted in connection.
But the most beautiful twist in my wine story came from home. I discovered that my great-great grandparents, sharecroppers in southern Virginia, grew grapes and made communion wine for their church. Wine isn’t just my passion — it’s my heritage.
Now, I host private wine events that blend education, storytelling, and celebration. Whether you're a curious beginner or a seasoned sipper, I create experiences that are tailored, memorable, and full of flavor.
Let’s raise a glass together. Book your private wine event today — and let’s make it unforgettable.
Cheers,
Akeyla

Core Values of Picky Wine Palate
1.
The best wine is the one you enjoy drinking. No one knows your palate better than you! So drink what you like! This is a judgment free zone.
2.
Wine was meant to be shared with others around a table filled with good food, good conversation and amazing people.
3.
Everyone is welcomed. No matter how little or how much you know about wine. There is always more to learn.
4.
Life is too short, drink wine. Try lots of wine, and don’t limit yourself to one type. Try something new whenever you can.
